About the nation
Gästrikar, Hälsingar, fellow countrymen, prospective members - welcome!
Gästrike-Hälsinge nation is run, like all other nations, by students, for students. This means that we do everything to make your time in Uppsala the best possible, but it also means that you have the opportunity to actively participate in shaping your nation. Despite many traditions, we are constantly evolving, and new traditions emerge every year.
We offer our members a large, yellow 19th-century house with a library and about forty study spots. During the warmer months, there’s also the possibility to sit in our lush garden, perhaps picking an apple or two from one of the trees?
Every evening (Monday-Saturday), our pub Ghuben is open, serving nearly 130 different types of beer. We also have a fine selection of whiskey and cocktails, which our friendly staff can help you explore. We also have our Pancake Bar, which serves the city's, perhaps, best American pancakes on Saturdays, complete with a variety of sweet and savoury toppings! In addition to pancakes. For drinks, we have everything from juice and soda to tea and coffee. During the fall semester of 2024, the Pancake Bar will be open for special occasions — follow us on social media for more info!
The nation boasts the shortest housing queue in Uppsala; it’s often possible to get a first-hand rental contract for a room as early as your first semester as a member. The housing is located on Studentvägen and in Observatoriet near Ekonomikum. We are the only nation that can proudly offer one housing unit for every six members!
We also have many scholarships and distribute close to 2 million SEK every year to our members. To learn more, visit the tab about scholarships on the website or ask one of our helpful full-timers.
Become a member
Becoming a member of the nation is easy. About a week before the start of the semester, the doors to registration open. Bring your admission letter and ID to the nation, where you will be welcomed by our International Secretaries and Recce Hosts. They will help you with the registration process and answer your questions. This is also a perfect opportunity to sign up for the Recce Reception—a day dedicated entirely to the nation’s new members. The day concludes with a delightful dinner full of singing and laughter, hosted for all new members.
When the registration period is closed, you can still easily join Gästrike-Hälsinge Nation by speaking with the First Curator at the nation. Drop by during office hours, and we’ll assist you! Alternatively, you can register through Uppsalastudent.com and then stop by the nation to collect your nation card.
